If your 200 yard shot brings double bogey into play, what's the best strategy to take it out of the equation? Any data showing GIR +1 success rates from various distances after the 200 yard approach?
Sometimes drawing a goofy lie close to the green is more disastrous than a 50-60 yard fairway wedge. Am I making sense?
Ya I think you'd have to weigh the options hole by hole. But if you're 200 yards out, there's trouble surrounding the green, and your dispersion pattern with your 200-yard club creates a high chance of entering trouble, I think you'd be better off "laying up". However what I mean by trouble is OB and hazards. Outside of that, generally speaking, proximity to the hole is always better, even if it's a goofy lie.
20-40 yards short on the fairway almost always beats 20-40 yards right or left of the cup, especially from 200 yards!
This is very true. 20-40 off to the side on the short side is disastrous 😂
