A Putting Guide For The Thinking Golfe

Get It Here

What’s Inside:

This is a collection of my best writing on putting from The Scoring Letter, reorganized into a single argument. Every amateur golfer believes putting is a stroke — something you either have or don’t, so when the putts aren’t dropping, the instinct is to fix the stroke. It’s a reasonable belief. It’s also wrong in my opinion.

Putting isn’t a stroke — it’s a process, and the stroke is just the last step in it. Before the putter ever moves, you’ve already made the decisions that actually matter: the speed you chose, the break you read, where you truly aimed. This guide covers all of it — distance control, effective hole size, green reading, the line debate, and the last quiet moment before the stroke begins. No swing tips. Just the process.
